Help Your Child by Teaching Them All About Tooth-Healthy Foods

Posted .

Did you know having a healthy and balanced diet is part of good oral hygiene? Well, it’s true, which is why our pediatric dentist, Dr. Andrea Mason, recommends avoiding tooth-harming foods and drinks as much as possible. So, if you want your child to have a top-notch smile for a lifetime, it’s best to teach them all about the tooth-healthy foods that can help them. Our dental team recommends doing so by doing the following things:

First, teach them about how fruits and vegetables are healthy for the smile. Then, have them monitor the produce in the house and make a list of what you need the next time you make a trip to the grocery store. When you’re at the store, show them how to select the fresh fruits and vegetables. You can even have the store produce person teach your child a thing or two.

Second, have your child help you in the kitchen. Show them all the tooth-healthy ingredients you use to make a whole tooth-healthy meal or snack. You can even have them wash and peel the fruits and vegetables to prepare them for the recipe. If you don’t have a peeler, it’s best to give them a kid-safe knife so they don’t accidentally cut their little fingers.
