How to Instill Good Oral Hygiene Habits in Your Child

Posted .

If you want your child to have a top-notch oral health and smile, then they need to have good oral hygiene. Now, our pediatric dentist, Dr. Andrea Mason, and dental team understand that might be a difficult task, especially if your child is young. Fortunately, there are things you can do to weave good oral hygiene habits in your child without having a terrible experience. Our dental team is happy to tell you all about them.

The first thing you should do is let your child choose their toothbrush. While you’re at the store, show them the many varieties of brushes that have cartoon characters, superheroes, cars, and princesses on them. If your child chooses a brush they like, they will be more excited to brush their teeth.

The second thing you should do is make oral hygiene exciting. You can do this by turning on a two-minute song while your child brushes. Encourage them to dance their wiggles out while they brush. There’s nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun while cleaning the smile!

The third thing you should do is make oral hygiene a team effort. Just grab your toothbrush, place the toothpaste on the bristles, and join in on the brushing party. This might even help your child know how to properly scrub because they will be watching and learning your techniques.
